Diane Moser Quintet
|
| The Diane Moser Quintet was established with the goal of writing and performing new jazz music and reworking familiar jazz standards. Everyone in the Quintet is an accomplished performer and composer-this unique group setting has provided the members the chance to continually create and inspire each other. They have been featured in NJPAC’s “Sounds of the City” series, Trumpets Jazz Club (Montclair) the China Gourmet(W.Orange), Gaslight Brewery(S.Orange) and Burgdorff Cultural Center(Maplewood.) Their live CD “Looking Forward, Looking Back” was released on the Twin Rivers label. This performance features Caldwell Faculty member Rob Middleton on saxophone, and jazz vocalist, Tina Marsh from Austin, TX.
The Diane Moser's Composers Big Band is the most imaginative, creative, and unique big band on the scene. Unlike the majority of big bands in jazz, the CBB is dedicated to developing and presenting new music for big band. The band's commitment to progress and exploration has garnered a loyal following, appreciative press and steady play on jazz radio. Diane Moser formed the band in 1997. When she put out the call, many New York's and New Jersey's top flight musicians answered. Since then, the 19 member strong band has performed monthly at Tierney's Tavern in Montclair, NJ for enthusiastic audiences, who not only get to hear the compositions of the members of the band, but also new works by a dazzling array of guest composers, along with the added treat of guest performers. The compositions contributed by the members of the band range from bluesy, swinging charts with echoes of Count Basie and Thad Jones, to experimental tunes full of carefully arranged tonalities and free form sections of improvisation, to a vocal chart for the entire band! Their guests have brought in everything from straight ahead, to a mini-opera, to compositions that include string quartet, banjo, and even penny whistle! The band's hardcore following eats it all up and eagerly returns time and time again for more. |
